BUFFALO DDR3-SDRAM NOW AT 2400MHZ!
Elpida and Buffalo Promote Higher Speed and Lower Voltage for the FireStix Family
2008-10-07
AUSTIN, TX – October 7, 2008 – Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions announced today the development of a memory module using Elpida’s new DDR3-SDRAM, which will be available by the end of the year. Achieving 2.5Gbps (Gigabit per second), the technology is currently being incorporated into the recently announced FireStix family of memory, becoming the fastest class of modules in the world.
This new memory module uses a copper interconnect process that is superior to aluminum in terms of transmission characteristics. By taking maximum advantage of these characteristics during the design phase, new circuitry can be developed, enabling even faster products with minimum power requirements. As a result, the new products’ ability to operate at an ultra low voltage of 1.2V contributes to overall lower power consumption, an especially important aspect for high-end PCs geared to high-speed operations.
“Buffalo’s and Elpida’s engineering leadership has proven their commitment to delivering the latest in technological breakthroughs year over year,” said Ken Higgins, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology. “Showcasing a dramatic improvement of DRAM characteristics and performance, these new modules have set the bar for innovation and performance in the memory technology market.”
Announced last week, the new family of Buffalo FireStix memory solutions has been designed to meet the demands of PC enthusiasts that require the highest quality, performance and efficiency in their memory modules. The FireStix family of Heat, Pyro and Inferno offers a unique blend of affordability and speed, while maintaining unparalleled quality, allowing consumers at all levels to benefit from the performance increase that only Buffalo can offer.
The new FireStix family consists of: Heat (DDR2 PC2-6400), an entry level module with improved thermal reduction and increased timings. Pyro (DDR2 PC2-8500 and DDR3 PC-10600), a high-end memory module with enhanced heat spreaders and high-end memory chips designed to provide increased memory speeds while enhancing system performance and stability; ideal for hardcore gamers and high-end PC enthusiasts. Finally, Inferno (DDR2 PC2-9600 and DDR3 PC3-12800), a module with finned aluminum heat spreaders and thermally conductive adhesive that reduces heat and ratchets up stability and performance; this ultra high quality module is designed for cyberathletes and elite gamers who push their system to its limit and beyond.
Backed by a limited lifetime warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the FireStix family of memory solutions is available now and can be purchased through distributors, online resellers and Buffalo’s Web site.
