TeraStation Duo - TS-WXL/R1 & TS-WXL/1D
Description
TeraStation Duo is Buffalo's dual drive, business-class network storage solution, designed with reliability and performance in mind. It is nearly feature identical to successful TeraStation III, but houses only two hard drives instead of four. The unit's heavy-duty power supply and over-sized cooling system, as well as vastly improved CPU speed guarantee consistent and reliable performance. Incorporating all firmware features presently found in the Buffalo lineup of professional NAS products, the TeraStation Duo highlights Active Directory support, disk quota support, a share level Replication feature and supports port trunking, making it a fitting solution for small to medium sized businesses. Additionally, hardware improvements such as hot swap and dual Ethernet ports add to the list of new features. It is a clear choice for those desiring maximum reliability and robust features.
TS-WXL/1D houses a single hard drive in its dual bay and gives users the option to upgrade the unit by adding a hard drive at any time. This flexibility provides a scalable storage solution that allows users to enable data mirroring or increase the overall capacity as needed.

• Does the TeraStation Pro come with a hard drive, or is it a bare shell?
The TeraStation Pro comes with all internal hard drives installed and ready to use. It is complete and ready to use.
• What is the default RAID mode for TeraStation Pro?
All TeraStation Pro models ship by default in RAID-6 mode, except the TeraStation Pro Duo which ships in RAID-1 mode.
• What RAID modes are supported?
TeraStation Pro models support the following RAID modes based on the number of hard drives installed. 2 Drives: JBOD, 0, 1 4 Drives: JBOD, 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 6 Drives: JBOD, 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 51 8 Drives: JBOD, 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 51, 60, 61 Hot-Spare is also supported on all models with four drives or more.
• What devices can I hook up to the USB ports?
The USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on TeraStation Pro models can be used for a variety of devices including: UPS devices for signaling safe shutdowns, printers for printer sharing and USB storage devices for backing up content on the TeraStation Pro or expanding the capacity of TeraStation Pro.
• Does the TeraStation Pro work with my Mac?
Yes, the TeraStation Pro works perfectly with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later. The TeraStation Pro also provides support for Time Machine functionality.
• How many users does the TeraStation Pro support?
The TeraStation Pro has no hardware or software limitations to the number of users it supports. It allows and supports unlimited connections over a variety of file transfer protocols. With a powerful dual-core CPU, it is designed for high load, however, depending on application and use, the device can only support up to a certain amount of users. For light office use, supporting hundreds of simultaneous users shouldn't be a problem, but more intensive applications like video, backups, etc. can reduce the number of users.
• How does TeraStation integrate with Active Directory?
The TeraStation Pro supports integration into AD domains. There is no limit to the size of the domain, however due to web site loading times in the interface, Buffalo recommends the TeraStation Pro be used in domains up to 5,000 users as beyond that, the interface or configuration slows down. The TeraStation Pro WSS models should be used for larger domains.
• Does TeraStation Pro support NTFS?
NTFS is a Windows based file-system and TeraStation Pro does not run Windows. It uses a similar file-system that provides NTFS-like security. Since files are always accessed over network protocols, the file system is irrelevant to the client PC's. Permissions are set on shared folders via the TeraStation Pro web user interface. Permissions can be set as unrestricted, read-only or full access with support for both users and groups.
