TeraStation Reliability

Our new TeraStation 3010 & 5010 Series comes with peace of mind included with upgrades to quality and functionality

NAS-grade Hard Drives Included

To improve reliability, Buffalo started to adapt NAS grade HDD for TeraStation 5000 series. This improved reliability and stability, and leds to less HDD failure reported since 2014.

Since 2017, with launch of new TeraStation family, we add “Enterprise grade” lineup for 12bay model, and expand NAS grade HDD lineup to TeraStation 3010 series.

Buffalo Operating System Tuned for Stability

What is reliability and stability? For NAS, the answer is “continuous operation under severe data transaction”.

Buffalo TeraStation OS is well tuned up to bear simultaneous full data access. TS5010 series does not stop working over 24 hours with simultaneous access from up to 100 client. Buffalo brings the real data storage reliability and stability with our confidence (differs depends on model).

Quad Core CPU with ECC Memory (T5010)

To improve performance stability, Buffalo adapted Quad Core CPU for TeraStation 5010 series. Higher performance CPU will let you handle larger data transaction smoothly.

Also TeraStation comes with server grade memory module, called “ECC (Error-correcting code)”, which brings stabilized

Duplex Firmware Feature

In some cases, devices may stop working due to an unexpected firmware accident or OS failure. To prevent such downtime, TeraStation keeps firmware data in different two locations. (HDD and NAND). If master firmware data on HDD crashed by accident, then its backup data on NAND automatically fixes the master data and is designed to bring the unit back to operation automatically.

This allows you to quickly restore the OS with the assistance of the Duplex Firmware feature without compromising data.

Replacement Hard Drives

Our replacement HDD is always pre-tested and pre-assembled with Tray. Once you get the replacement drive, you just need to take it out from the shipping box and put the drive into the NAS box. Always make things easy and quick.

For further premium support, Buffalo offers optional service for next business day and keep your drive extended warranty.

TeraStation Features

Boot Authentication

In addition to AES256bit, Terastation 3010/5010 has Boot Authentication feature.

This system is designed to prevent a TeraStation from being used in an unauthorized environment. In other words, if the TeraStation is stolen it cannot be accessed unless the authentication server is present.

If the authentication server is not found, the TeraStation will boot but the user interface and shares will not be accessible.

Remote Monitoring

Monitoring the health of your Buffalo NAS devices in your local or remote offices will help you identify potential issues before they develop into problems leading to downtime.

The TeraStation plays well with network monitoring products in the market such as Kaseya, PRTG, SolarWinds, Orion NPM and Zabbix to provide the monitoring you need.

User Management (Advanced NTFS Permissions / Active Directory Support)

File permissions can now be controlled at the subfolder file level from Windows Explorer, making it possible to create new shares with unique permissions on demand from active directory.

  • Assign permissions to all levels of the shared directory structure

  • Manage all permissions from your domain account

  • Copy and Paste existing permission structures

TeraStation 3010 & 5010 devices now support up to 10,000 individual users.

RAID Mode Management (Rapid RAID Mode Change)

TeraStation comes with HDD pre-installed and RAID configured as follows

2bay   RAID 1
4bay   RAID 5
8bay  RAID 6
12bay   RAID 6

Buffalo new OS allows for greatly improved RAID rebuild times, and it only takes 10min. You can chose your preferred RAID mode quickly, allowing you to save  time.

Rsync Integration (TS5010)

The TeraStation 3010 & 5010 models can now backup and replicate data to other non-Buffalo Rsync enabled devices. TeraStation devices can be added to existing Rsync environments providing greater integration opportunities.

LCD Display (TS5010 series only)

Front LCD will allow you to check the unit condition without log into the web interface. Especially for trouble occasion, you can quickly check error messages and take action smoothly.

Scalability Ready (Partial Populated lineup)

For future storage demand increase, Buffalo offers partially populated lineup with 8 bay desktop model and 12 bay rackmount model.

By leaving some blank HDD space, you can just add HDDs when it is necessary. By keeping initial cost low, you can prepare for possible future business expansion.

UPS Compatible

Your critical data may collapse if any trouble occurs on power unit.

By using UPS connected to TeraStation, the unit smoothly shut it down by itself safely and protect your data.

Buffalo TeraStation is compatible to Cyberpower and Scheneider (APC) UPS. (for more details)
