LinkStation Pro LS-VL network storage offers instant storage expansion and file access on your home network and over the Internet. Significantly faster than a USB hard drive, LinkStation Pro features a fast 1.6 GHz processor for maximum transfer speeds up to 76 MBps. Simply plug it into any network Ethernet port or into the back of your wireless router and instantly access it on any networked device in your house. Equipped with LinkStation Pro is a built-in BitTorrent™ client, a DLNA Certified™ media server and an iTunes® server for effort-free downloading and streaming your favorite movies, photos, music and more. Included NovaBACKUP® Professional software for Windows® and Time Machine® support provide a whole home backup solution for every PC and Mac® on your network.
While on the go, Buffalo’s free WebAccess service allows you to create a personal cloud for easy remote access and file sharing with anyone, anywhere over the Internet. | The LinkStation Pro features a 1.6 GHz embedded processor and DDR3 RAM and can achieve gigabit network transfer speeds of up to 76 MB/s (608 Mb/s). Depending on network conditions and the types of files being transferred, performance may vary. |
| • Does the LinkStation Pro come with a hard drives, or is it a bare shell? |
| The LinkStation Pro comes with one internal hard drive. It is complete and ready to use. |
| • Can I replace the hard drive in my LinkStation Pro by myself? |
| During the warranty period, use only hard drives sold by Buffalo Technology. If maintaining your warranty is no longer a concern, most 7200 rpm SATA drives from reputable manufacturers will work fine in the LinkStation. Because of thermal and power issues, the use of drives with speeds higher than 7200 rpm is not recommended. |
| • Is the LinkStation Pro compatible with Windows Server 2000, 2003 or 2008? |
| Yes. The LinkStation Pro works perfectly with Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008. However, some of the included software (NovaStor NovaBACKUP) is not compatible with server versions of Windows. |
| • Can I connect the LinkStation Pro to a PC with the USB port? |
| To connect the LinkStation Pro directly to a PC, use the Ethernet port. The USB port is designed to connect external USB devices, such as memory sticks or external hard drives, to the LinkStation Pro. Files on these devices will then be available on the network. |
| • Does the LinkStation Pro work with my Mac? |
| Yes, the LinkStation Pro works perfectly with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later. The LinkStation Pro also provides support for Time Machine functionality. |
| • Does the Web Access feature require any software to be installed on a PC? |
| No. Buffalo Web Access feature is completely embedded into the firmware of the LinkStation. |
| • Does the Web Access feature require the subscription to a service? |
| No. Buffalo Web Access feature is completely free of charge. |
| • How many users does the LinkStation Pro support? |
| The LinkStation Pro does not have a specific user limit and can conceivably support unlimited users. However, depending on the application and use case, the device may provide limited user support. Although the LinkStation Pro can support hundreds of users simultaneously in simple environments (sharing word documents, etc.), it is designed for homes and small offices with up to approximately 50 basic users. |
| • How does the BitTorrent download feature work? |
| The BitTorrent feature is access through a web browser where a user can upload a .torrent tracker file or simply provide a URL to a tracker. The LinkStation Pro then downloads the BitTorrent file(s) to the pre-determined download directory. |
